The Rise of Organic Farming , Ozone Group of Companies
Since World Health Day is round the corner, let me introduce you to Ozone Group of Companies, one of India’s well-established healthcare and consumer products player in the market today.
India has the greatest number of organic producers in the world. In 2013, according to FiBL-IFOAM report, there were nearly two million organic producers worldwide, more than 35% of them in Asia and a further 29% in Africa. Around 11.7 million hectares – a quarter of the agricultural land on the planet – and more than 1.7 million of the world’s organic producers, are in developing countries and emerging markets, notably India (650,000), Uganda (189,610) and Mexico (169,703).
Farming, as we know, is a traditional occupation that’s been followed since time immemorial. But the organic farming concept is gaining eminence in India not only in the farming community, but also among the city dwellers as we can see a lot of individuals venturing into this field. From organic food to clothes to cosmetics – it certainly seems that our society is slowly making those leaps towards going all-organic. Farmers as well as urban individuals are adopting organic farming practices and reaping more benefits; the more organic and natural the produce, the safer and healthier it is for us and for the environment. The people who undertake farming occupation have understood that the fertilizers used for growing crops are not favourable to yield healthy produce. Instead, the usage of water or aqua waste, from the other organic wastes is considered to be the best source for the growth of crops.
Organic farming reduces the use of chemicals significantly, which in turn does not pollute the underground water. This creates richer soil that aids plant growth while reducing erosion. When organically produced items are used to manufacture products, such as skin care, those products are essentially low on chemicals which makes these products bio-degradable and they do not pollute our environment. Organic agriculture is the best insurance policy that India can have for its population with better performance on productivity, environmental impact, economic viability and social well-being.
Organic may be the buzzword in the wellness industry, but not all organic is actually organic. The main challenge in the natural and organic wellness industry is educating customers about the benefits of using 100% natural products. Just how what you eat affects you; similarly, what you apply to your body is absorbed and slowly starts accumulating in tissues.
