SC : Justice PS Narasimha on adjournments Listing of cases in Supreme Court requires time and money

The Supreme Court on Wednesday expressed frustration with the casual approach taken by lawyers in requesting adjournments for their cases.

A vacation bench comprising Justice PS Narasimha was requested by a lawyer to adjourn a case they were appearing in.

Justice Narasimha, however, emphasized that the listing of cases in the Supreme Court requires both time and money, and it should not be taken lightly. He raised concerns about cases being listed during court vacations, only to have parties seeking adjournments.

“Every case listing here in the Supreme Court requires time and money. You cannot take cases so lightly. You all have mentioned the cases and they have been listed in the vacations and then you seek an adjournment,” he said.

Accordingly, he refused to adjourn the case and directed the lawyer to read the case documents and appear before the Court for hearing.
