Russia commemorated birth-centenary of former Indian Prime Minister through issue of postal-stamp: India could also do so putting apart politics
Prime Minister Narender Modi paid rich tributes to Indira Gandhi on her birth-centenary on 19.11.2017 through tweet. But Russia went a step further by issuing a special commemorative postage stamp in honour of former Indian Prime Minister.
It is an admitted fact that Indira Gandhi was the only person from Nehru-Gandhi family having held post of Prime Minister of largest democracy of the world, having made significant contribution for the country including leading the country to great victory in 1971 Indo-Pak war leading to creation of Bangladesh. Even top BJP leadership including former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee minced no words in praising Indira Gandhi for her valuable service to the nation. It is noteworthy that ruling BJP has always become follower of Sardar Patel even though former Deputy Prime Minister was also from Congress party.
It would have been better if Indian government would have also honoured former Indian Prime Minister by at lease issue of a commemorative postage-stamp. But no other former Indian Prime Minister from Nehru-Gandhi family deserves any such honour. Even now, wrong should be undone by finding some occasion for issue of such a postage-stamp in honour of Indira Gandhi.
