DR. JITENDRA SINGH ADDRESSES 1ST NATIONAL CONFERENCE ON CYBER CRIME INVESTIGATION AND FORENSICS AT CBI (HQ)

Dr. Jitendra Singh, MoS(PP) today addressed the 1st National Conference on Cyber Crime Investigation and Forensics, held at CBI Headquarters in New Delhi.

Addressing the conference, Dr.Jitendra Singh complimented Director, CBI for organising the first conference of this nature. He also complimented the CBI for its work over the years and said the agency has become a benchmark of trust for the citizens of the country. He also expressed his happiness that CBI’s conviction rate has been on the high side in recent years.

Dr. Singh said that holding such a conference itself is evidence of the changing nature of crime as such a conference would have been unthought of some years ago. The Minister said that India is still evolving as a nation and organisations like CBI have made their contribution to the evolution of the nation. The Minister added that the evolution of society and with it, the evolving nature of crimes make it incumbent on investigative agencies to sharpen their techniques to track cyber crime and bring criminals to book, thereby dispensing justice to victims. India with a large population, the Minister said has the second largest internet users-base in the world and, therefore, the study of cyber crime is very important.

Dr.Jitendra Singh announced at the conference that a Centralised Technology Vertical (CTV) with a cost Rs.99 crore is being set up within the CBI and would be operational by next year. The CTV would help in acquiring real time information for the benefit of investigating officers. The Minister also emphasised the importance of NGOs and activists in joining and making efforts to counter cyber crime by changing the mindset of the masses. During his address, Dr. Singh also interacted with the delegates present at the conference.

Earlier, Director CBI Shri Rishi Kumar Shukla welcomed the Minister at the conference and thanked him for sparing his valuable time to address and interact with the delegates. Director, CBI Shri Shukla said that the conference is envisaged as a platform for Law Enforcement Agencies from State/UTs and Government of India to share their best practices and to replicate them. Shri Shukla also said that cyber crime has become a global phenomena now and this conference will be an enriching experience for Law Enforcement Agencies working at various levels.

The Central Bureau of Investigation has organised the two day conference (4-5th September, 2019) yesterday. Around 50 officers including DGPs, ADGPs, IGPs, DIGPs and SPs dealing with cybercrime in State & UT Police, Central Agencies, the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, other Ministries, experts from Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) and academia participated in the Conference.

During the two day conference, several topics, including Crimes against Digital Financial Infrastructure; Cross border digital evidence-Challenges and trends; Authenticating Electronic Evidence; Social Media-The Law Enforcement challenges; Online child sexual abuse-Need for coordinated law enforcement action; Indian legal provisions for electronic surveillance & Blocking; Emerging trends in mobile forensics and Call Centre Frauds were discussed in detail during the deliberations.

The Valedictory Session was addressed by Shri Satish Jha, Chairman, National Technical Research Organisation (NTRO).
